Professional Figure Skater and Coach Turned UX/UI Designer

MY STORY

Blending decades of athletic precision and a winning drive to create exceptional user experiences

It was through founding my coaching business that I discovered UX/UI Design. While building a website to market my coaching, I became pretty obsessed with optimizing what I now understand to be the “user experience.”  As I started learning more, I realized that a lot of the skills I was developing for fun actually had a job title and a career path attached to them. This experience sparked a deep fascination with design and led me to pursue a Certificate in UX/UI Design from Rice University.

At City Flavor, I am currently collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance the Order Ahead calendar feature, focusing on reducing cognitive load and streamlining the process for users to place orders with food trucks during corporate cafeteria events. I’m also designing for InjureFree, which is a company focused on amateur sports safety and compliance. I’ve been working on the onboarding process for their new SportsMed Credential acquisition. Previously, during my time at Rice, I collaborated with diverse teams on various products. I worked as a user researcher and UI designer on the re-design of a non-profit organization, Gigi's Playhouse: Houston’s, website. Additionally, I led a team of three as a project manager and UX designer to create Key Connect: Smart Apartments app.

My entrepreneurial background has seamlessly integrated leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills into my UX/UI work. I have also developed strong capabilities in design research, concept development, prototyping, and user testing, enabling me to deliver high-quality, impactful designs.

DESIGN PROCESS

Empathy and imagination allows me to step into the users shoes

There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all design process. My approach is fluid, with steps that adapt to the unique demands of each project. By stepping into the shoes of the user, I gain a deep understanding of their perspectives. This empathy allows me to craft a compelling narrative that inspires solutions tailored to the user’s needs, resulting in beautiful and effective designs. As a skater and choreographer, I understand the value of artistry and crafting a storyline that engages the user just like an audience. These soft skills are bolstered by a lifetime of training discipline to set goals, analyze technical issues, develop pathways forward and persevere to success.
